Integrated 1

Course Description

The following is a list of common core units of study to be covered by Integrated 1 math students. Students will be assigned a username and password to access the online curriculum and assignment updates. We will be emphasizing problem solving strategies, modeling as well as investigating math problems.  The curriculum can be viewed online at ebooks.cpm.org .  There are homework hints on many of the problems on the online book.

  • Functions
  • Transformations and Solving
  • Modeling Two-Variable Data & Sequences
  • Systems of Equations
  • Inequalities
  • Congruence, Coordinate Geometry & Constructions

Recommended Supplies

  • Core Connections Book (leave hard cover at home)
  • spiral notebook (100+ pages)
  • TI-83 or TI-84+ Graphing Calculator
  • 2 sharpened pencils
  • colored pen (other than black or blue)
  • 2+ highlighters
  • glue stick, glue, or adhesive roller
  • Graph paper & lined paper

Spiral Notebook

Your spiral notebook/math journal should be brought to class every day.  We will frequently record notes on vocabulary and problem solving in class and perform labs out of the textbook.  Spirals should always be kept neat and with complete summaries.  Spirals will be graded at the end of every unit. Each day of notes is worth 5 points in the “Classwork” category.  When absent, it will be the student’s responsibility to get the notes and/or handouts.

Grading Categories

Grades will be weighted as follows:

Chapter Tests, Quizzes, and Performance Tasks– 55%

Homework Quizzes –                                                             15%

Homework –                                                                              20%

Classwork –                                                                                10%

Homework

Homework and classwork will be graded using a point system. Homework and classwork assignments are generally worth 5 points each. The following scale will be used to assign points.

5 points = Homework is COMPLETED (all work shown) and GRADED (evidence of rework on missed problems).

4 points = Homework is COMPLETED (all work shown) and GRADED (NO rework done on missed problems).

3 points = Homework is COMPLETED (all work shown) NOT GRADED.

0 points = INCOMPLETE (work not shown) or Late work

All students will be given one Homework Pass and one Late Pass per quarter.

Answers to homework will be posted on AERIES.  If your computer is down make sure you go to the library before school, or call a friend.  If AERIES is down, we will grade the next day as a class.

Absent Work

If you are absent from class, you may call a friend, check AERIES, or the Sandburg Website for the assigned homework, so that you do not fall behind.  Also, make sure to check the absent work board when you return for the notes, or handouts that you missed.  Count the number of days you were absent and add one.  That is the number of days you have to get caught up.

Rules of Conduct

  1. Be Punctual- Be on time and in your seat ready to work when the bell rings.
  2. Be Prepared- Have all supplies and necessary materials to be successful in class.
  3. Be Productive- Use your time wisely and get your work done.
  4. Be Procedural- Follow all directions the first time they are given.
  5. Be Polite- Keep your hands, feet, personal objects, and negative opinions to yourself.

Tests and Quizzes

Homework Quizzes: A roll of the dice each day will determine if you have a homework quiz.  The quiz will be on ONE of the homework problems you did on the previous night’s homework.  It is important you ask questions on any problems you didn’t understand.

There will be a test at the end of each Chapter and quizzes will be given throughout the chapter. Tests and quizzes cover a large portion of your grade, so please make sure you are studying your notes each night accordingly.  Each Test is worth 50 points and each quiz is worth 20 points.

You should be maintaining an 85% or higher to stay in Honors Integrated Math 1.
